Ignác Jahoda: Czech Heaven

October 14, 2025

We cordially invite you to a performance by the Baroque orchestra and singers of the FRAGIUM16 ensemble
Thursday, October 30, at 6 p.m.

Ignác Jahoda: České nebe
October 14, 2025 - Ignác Jahoda: Czech Heaven

The Baroque orchestra and singers will fill St. Martin's Church in the Wall with praise for the Czech patron saints. A selection from the hymnbook "Ignatia Gahody - Czeské nebe" will be performed.

This is an original project by historian, singer, and composer Jiří Bartoloměj Sturz, who is bringing to life the legacy of composer Ignác Jahoda (1627–1709 or 1719) in order to create an exemplary model of a musical and literary creator from the Czech environment at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, to which the rich aesthetic and intellectual impulses of the Czech Baroque could be applied.

The hymnal presents songs celebrating Czech patron saints. However, with its composed ritornellos, rich instrumentation, and often virtuoso vocal parts, it significantly transcends the form of hymnal songs.

The musical performance will also be interspersed with words about "Jahoda's life" and excerpts from the poetic work of Bohuslav Balbín.
